Daniel Joseph Martinez
Political Success— Diffusing Concentrations of Power
I think that this artist thinks alot of contemporary art has a cliche sort of feel to it and he wants to seperate himself completely from that stereotype. He all he wants to satisfy his artistic needs and if he gains a little power from doing so, all the better but he wants to make it clear that is not his intention.
Michelle Lopez
Sensual Success— Deflecting Media Attention
She likes to use pieces that give off a subconcsience sense of comfort, such as couches or beds. This is what makes her success sensous. She really thinks about she touches people and reaches out to her audience.
Matthew Barney
Strategic Success— Creating Resistence
Barney is a very challenging man from what I can read. He not only attracts resistence, but he creates it, all the while feeding off it. He is a modest man with outward ideas. His work is resented as well as praised.
2) I must say, I didn’t know exactly what I was getting into when I signed up for this class. I did know, I was really interested though. I have become more exposed to art over the past few years, (maybe I can thank moving to Richmond for that), and that is another reason I wanted to take an art class.. to expand my knowledge. Most students will probably either toss or sell back their book. I want to keep mine. May be the only college text book I have ever held onto. Although, I hear this text may not hold the best artists I could learn about it, it still opens my eyes to almost every and any different kind of creative person that ise out there.
I think what seperates a B from an A for this class is the effort and progress the student chose to devote to this class. If the student tried to take this class with a grain of salt and not even try and make it to class or not try when presented with projects, obviously an A is not deserved.
I may not be artisticly inclined. But that in no way, means I don’t appreciate it and love learning about it. I will continue to grow with this. After taking this class, I have been to the local galleries in Richmond, I have researched on my own outside of class new and local artists. I really enjoyed learning about this and I may even be taking another class this summer!
